Day 27: Capilano Suspension Bridge(카필라노 서스펜션 브릿지)!

 밴쿠버 다운타운(Vancouver Downtown) 근처에서 머물고 있다면 카필라노 서스펜션 브릿지(Capilano Suspension Bridge)까지 가는 길이 쉽지는 않다. 대중교통을 이용하면 약 1시간 넘게 걸린다. www.capbridge.com 에서 셔틀버스(Shuttle Bus)을 알아 보면 다운타운에서 카필라노 파크까지 직행으로 가는 버스가 있다. 잘 찾아서 가면 무료 셔틀 버스가 있으니 잘 알아보자!

 북 밴쿠버(North Vancouver)에 위치하고 있어서 그런지 버스가 많지도 않다.

 입구를 통과하면 이렇게 지도가 나온다. 지도에서 어떤 어트랙션(attraction)을 먼저 체험할 지 정하고 이동하면 된다.

 알 수 없는 토템들이 입구에 있다! Unknown totem at the entrance!

 카필라노 서스펜션 브릿지~! 필자가 찍은 사진은 형편 없지만 정말 아름다운 곳이다. 

 다리를 지나가다 사진을 찍는 관광객들이 많다! 조금은 조심할 필요가 있다! 카메라를 떨어뜨리거나 몸을 친다면 굉장히 위험하니 조심히 지나가자.

 모든 어트랙션(Attraction)을 체험하는 데 거의 3 시간 정도 소요된다!

 밴쿠버 여행 와서 이 곳을 안 왔다면 후회했을 뻔 했다!

 It takes almost three hours to experience all of the atrractions!
 If I hadn't come here during my Vancouver trip, I would have regretted it!

 지친 도심 여행을 하다가 이 곳에 오면 자동으로 운동도 되고 공기도 굉장히 맑아서 리프레시(refreshing) 된다. 관광지 중에 이 곳 보다 공기가 맑은 곳은 한 번도 못 봤다.

 2월인데 영하 날씨였다. 아마도 밴쿠버 다운타운(Vancouver Downtown)보다는 북 밴쿠버(North Vancouver)가 조금 추울 것이다.

 It was February, but it was below freezing. Perhaps North Vancouver is a bit colder than Vancouver Downtown.

 이런 설명도 있어서 어트랙션(attraction)을 체험하는 데에 이해가 안되는 걱정은 없다.

 사람들이 이 곳에서 사진 찍으려고 줄 서 있었다. 정말 아름답다!

 개인적으로 가장 무섭고 아찔했던 어트랙션이다. 무서운 사람들은 뒤 돌아가는 사람도 봤다.

 클리프워크(Cliffwalk)를 마치면 '2019' 조형물이 나온다. 공기가 너무 맑아서 좋았다. 인간의 행복에 기여하는 요소는 날씨가 큰 영향을 미친다고 생각한다.

 After the Cliffwalk, the sculpture "2019" will come out. The air was so clear that it was good. I think the weather has a great effect on human happiness.

 더 카필라노 트레이딩 포스트(The Capilano Trading Post)은 기념품 샵이라고 생각하면 된다.

 밴쿠버(Vancouver)는 브리티시 콜럼비아(British Columbia)의 한 도시이다. 브리티시 콜럼비아 출신이라면 할인이 된다. 나는 외국인이기 때문에 해당사항이 없다!

 카필라노 서스펜션 브릿지(The Capilano Suspension Bridge)에서 대학생 가격은 $36.70 이다. 한화로 33,000원. 공원 입장료가 33,000원이면 저렴한 가격은 아니다...ㅋㅋㅋ 이렇게 결제를 하면 그라우스 산(Grouse Mountain) 입장료 $1.00 할인권도 준다!

Day 26: Deep Cove(딥 코브) and Granville Island(그랜빌 아일랜드)

 The Village Of Deep Cove. 필자는 숙소를 차이나타운(Chinatown) 근처에서 살았는데 딥 코브(Deep Cove)까지 버스를 타고 오는데 1시간 넘게 걸린 것으로 기억한다. 그런데 버스타고 구경하는 것도 다 여행이라고 생각해서 체감상 오래 걸린 것 같지 않다.

 Deep Cove: "... a place of such magnificence can only set you free.. "

 딥 코브: "... 웅장한 곳은 너를 자유롭게 할 수 있을 뿐이다... "

 닫혀 있어서 들어가 보지는 못했다.

 'Church Basement Ladies' (Feb 21st~Mar 9th)이 극장에서 하는 뮤지컬(Musical Comedy)인가 보다.

 딥 코브(Deep Cove) 안에 있는 파노라마 공원(Panorama Park)이다. 여행 중에 눈이 내리고 있어서 사람들이 없었다.

 뭐하는 곳일까. 안 들어가봐서 잘 모르겠다.

 사진 속에 보이는 PEPSI라고 보이는 곳이 매점 같은 곳이다. 독점이기 떄문에 가격은 다른 곳 보다 1.5배 이상 비싸다.

  해가 보이지 않고 구름이 많은 날씨였다. 분명 관광지인데 사람이 없다는 것이 신기하다.

 이런 숲 속에서 사람들이 한 두명 씩 나오길래 나도 들어가봤다.

 One or two people came out of these woods, so I went in.

 이런 곳에서 밥을 먹고 싶었지만 가방에 먹을 것이 없었다.

 딥 코브(Deep Cove)를 직역하면 '깊은 만'인데 이런 곳에도 저런 집이 있었다. 식당이 아니고 사람 사는 집이었다. 샌프란시스코 소살리토(San Francisco Sausalito)랑은 또 다른 느낌이다.

 캐나다에서 확인할 수 있었던 점은 물이 확실히 깨끗하다. 스탠리 파크(Stanley Park), 잉글리시 베이(English Bay), 딥 코브(Deep Cove) 모두 물이 맑다. '단풍국'이 아니고 '자연국'이다. 자연을 소중히 여기고 자연에 대한 교육을 초등교육부터 제대로 한다고 들었다.

 What you can see in Canada is that the water is definitely clean. Stanley Park, English Bay and Deep Cove all have clear water. I heard that all schools in Canada teach why nature is important  from elementary school.

 미국처럼 캐나다도 공원 벤치에 위인들의 인용문 같은 것이 새겨져있다. 나도 미래에 나의 명언이 벤치에 각인될 수 있을까.

 딥 코브(Deep Cove)는 구름이 많은대로 매력이 있었다. 무언가 탐험하고 싶은 욕구가 생겼다.

 "Dogs allowed on leash only"

 "목줄을 매는 개만 허용된다."

 한국에서는 목줄을 매지 않는 애완견을 거의 못 본 것 같다.

 물 위에 떠 있는 카약(Kayak), 요트(Yacht)를 타고 싶으면 이 곳에 가서 빌릴 수 있다. 여행 와서 한 번 쯤은 빌려서 타도 재밌을 것 같다. 그런데 눈이 와서 그런가 평일인데 문이 닫혀 있었다.

 If you want to ride kayak or yacht floating on the water, you can borrow it here. I think it will be fun to rent a ride after the trip. But it was snowing, so the door was closed.

 북미 문화에서 수용할 문화는 에너지를 절약 문화와 가족 중심 문화라고 생각한다.  

 저 놀이터 지붕은 태양광 집열판(Solar Panel)이다. 그리고 가족 구성원끼리 모두 친근하기 때문에 평일 낮 시간에도 가족 끼리 나와서 여행할 수 있는 것이라고 생각한다. 서양 문화에서는 방학 때 가족끼리 시간을 보내기 때문에 더욱 돈독해지는 것 같다.

 The roof of that playground is a solar panel. And because all family members are friendly, I think they can travel with their family even during the daytime on weekdays. It seems that in Western culture, family members spend time together during vacation, so it becomes more robust.

 밴쿠버는 눈이 많이 내리는 도시가 아니라고 했는데 내가 가는 곳 마다 날씨가 안 좋다.

 사실 Granville Island(그랜빌 아일랜드)는 방문 할 의사가 없었는데 Whistler(휘슬러)를 못 가게 되어서 대신 갔다. Whistler(휘슬러)를 못 간 것이 아직까지 조금 아쉽다.

 In fact, Granville Island had no intention of visiting, but he couldn't go to Whistler and went instead. I'm still a little sad that I haven't been to Whistler.

 그랜빌 아일랜드(Granville Island) 입구를 지나치자 마자 보이는 관경이다. 요트(yacht)가 많다. 보트 렌탈(boat rental)이 $65이라고 광고를 합니다. Tax까지 더 하면 꽤 되겠습니다.

 사실 그랜빌 아일랜드(Granville Island)가 어떤 곳인지도 모르고 그냥 왔다. 갔더니 퍼블릿 마켓(Public Market)이라고 있길래 그냥 들어갔다. 굳이 따지자면 이곳은 'Wholesale Food(홀세일 푸드)' 혹은 'Chelsea Market(첼시 마켓)' 이랑 비슷한 곳이다. 도시 속에 있는 세련된 시장이라고 생각하면 된다.

 Granville Island(그랜빌 아일랜드) 안에 있는 Public Market(퍼블릭 마켓)에도 중국 장식이 있다. 밴쿠버에 얼마나 많은 중국인들이 있는지 짐작이 된다. 식재료는 거의 다 판다고 생각하면 된다. 싱싱한 과일이 저렴해서 몇 팩을 샀다. 

 There are also Chinese decorations at the Public Market inside Granville Island. I can guess how many Chinese there are in Vancouver. You can think that the ingredients are almost sold out. I bought some packs of fresh fruit because it was cheap.

 I was really confused to the point where saying myself "Where am I?".

밴쿠버 어학원의 현실 (The Reality Of Private English Academy in Vancouver)

 캐나다 밴쿠버 어딘가에 위치한 어학원입니다. 이 어학원은 많은 밴쿠버 내에서 학생들에게 인기가 좋은 어학원입니다. 국가별로 직원들도 있고 체계적인 레벨 테스트를 봅니다.

 It is a language institute located somewhere in Vancouver, Canada. This language institute is a popular language institute for students in many Vancouver. We have employees in each country, and we do a systematic level test.

 내가 어학원에 방문한 이유는 밴쿠버 시내에서 내가 한국인이라는 것을 알아보고 명함을 주면서 Free Trial Lesson(무료 수업)에 수강해보라고 홍보했다. 그래서 알겠다고 하고 어떤 곳인지 보기 위해 직접 찾아갔다.

 The reason why I visited the language institute was because I recognized that I was Korean in downtown Vancouver and gave my business card to promote to the Free Trial Lesson. So I said yes and went to see the place in person.

 한 클래스에 학생은 10명 ~ 15명 정도이다. 그리고 수준은 4단계로 나뉘어져 있어서 수준별 수업을 한다. 필자가 들어간 청강한 클래스 레벨은 2단계 수준이다 (4단계가 가장 잘 하는 레벨이다).

 일본, 한국, 멕시코, 브라질, 중국 다양한 국가에 온 20대 친구들이었다. 대부분 gap year였고, 한국 학생들은 워킹 홀리데이 혹은 어학연수를 목표로 온 학생들이다.

 그리고 밴쿠버 어학원 주변에는 이민 컨설팅 회사가 많이 있다. 중국, 한국, 일본 이민 컨설팅을 해주는데 비용은 상상 이상이다. 그래도 계속해서 이민을 원하는 사람들이 있어서 유지가 된다고 했다.

 Google Maps(구글 맵스)에 있는 English Bay Beach (잉글리시 베이)를 검색해서 출발!

 날씨가 엄청 추웠다고는 생각 안 했는데 많이 추웠나 보다. 하도 돌아다녀서 추위에 내성이 생긴 것 같다.

 도심 속에서 야생 동물을 볼 수 있다는 것은 축복이다.

 It's a blessing to be able to see wild animals in the middle of the city.

 날씨도 완벽하고 산책하기 정말 좋은 English Bay Beach(잉글리시 베이 비치)!

 The weather was perfect and it was really nice to take a walk!

 후식은 Hui Lau Shan(허류산) 아니면 Gong Cha(공차)가 최고다. 밴쿠버에는 아시아 이민자들이 많아서 아시아 음식 없는 것이 거의 없다. 한식은 다 찾아볼 수 있고, 일본, 중국, 홍콩, 대만 음식 시도할 수 있다.

 Hui La Shan or Gong Cha is the best dessert. Vancouver has many Asian immigrants, so there is little without Asian food. Korean food can be found, and Japanese, Chinese, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese food can be tried.

 밴쿠버에 도착해서 그냥 갑자기 너무 피곤했다! 한국-스리랑카-홍콩-일본-미국동부-미국서부-밴쿠버,캐나다 거의 지구 한 바퀴를 이동했다.

 I was just so tired when I arrived in Vancouver! South Korea-Srika-Hong Kong-Japan-U.S. Eastern-American-American-West Vancouver, Canada, has traveled almost once around the globe.

 그래서 그냥 산책하기 위해서 Stanley Park(스탠리 파크)로 이동했다! 

 So I went to Stanley Park just for a walk!

 오리? 청둥오리? 오리가 강이 아닌 그냥 산책로 있는 것은 처음 본다. 이런 동물들을 동물원이 아닌 곳에서 볼 수 있다는 것은 축복이라고 생각한다.

 A duck? A mallard? I've never seen a duck on a walk, not a river. I think it's a blessing to see these animals outside the zoo.

 이 날 스탠리 파크(Stanley Park)에서 산책하는 선택은 완벽한 선택이었다. 날씨도 정말 완벽했고 기분전환에 성공했다.

 The choice to take a walk at Stanley Park on this day was the perfect choice. The weather was really perfect and I succeeded in changing my mood.

 여기에도 오리! 물이 정말 맑다. 투명하다.

 This is the duck! The water is really clear. Transparent.

 어떤 여행지에서도 볼 수 없었던 자연 관경이다!

 It's a natural sight I have never seen in any tourist destination!

 평일 낮시간이어서 그런지 사람들이 많이 없었다. 밴쿠버의 한강 같은 곳이라고 들었다.

 There weren't many people because it was daytime on weekdays. I heard it's like the Han River in Vancouver.

 토템들도 있었다. 아메리카 원주민 사회에서 신성시되는 상징물이다. 거대했는데 큰 감흥은 없었다.

 Stanley Park(스탠리 파크)는 엄청 커서 한 바퀴 다 산책하려면 최소 한 시간 이상은 소요된다. 전체를 다 돌아 보지는 못했는데 충분히 산책을 해서 English Bay 쪽으로 걸어갔다.

 Stanley Park (Stanley Park) is so big that it takes at least an hour to walk all the way around. I didn't go through the whole thing, but I took a good walk and walked toward English Bay.

 너무 아름다웠다. 그리고 이곳에서 노래 들으면서 잠시 누워있었더니 스트레스는 하나도 없었다.

 English Bay 역시 아름답다. 자연과 도시가 공존한다는 것이 신기했다. 서울은 도시는 있지만 자연은 없는 느낌인데 말이다.
