Day 2: Colombo, Sri Lanka to Kandy City Centre (2)

The construction workers were working in front of the market. But what's interesting is that they were working on it without a fence. What I felt in Sri Lanka was that people have good eyesight and they wear a pair of flip flops every day. Korea should be more careful because it is a country where the personal principle is applied. Or maybe I'm the only one who's so sensitive about this.

There are many bags, but they are all fake. And it's dirty because there's a lot of dust on it. Of course because it's on display outside for 24 hours a day. Don't buy fakes. Buying fakes is a crime, and selling fakes is a crime too.

Stepping out of the authentic market and walking a little upward, you will see a shopping mall-like building. Bag, shoes, clothes, hats, chargers, etc. There was a lot of stuff, but there wasn't a price tag at all. You really need to be careful when you visit a store without a price tagI could see a lot of people from the West. I heard that Westerners like to travel to Asia. Sri Lankan merchants know they have a lot of money and try to cheat.

Many Sri Lankan merchants spoke Korean, butI thought it was more foolish to buy things at a stupid price simply because they knew how to speak Korean. Frankly, there was no what I wanted to buy specially. I wanted to buy something that represents Sri Lanka at the proper price. But the merchants tried to sell me a T-shirt for $50 = 8,000 lkr, so I just decided not to buy it.

Phone Chager

I kept going around the market to buy a phone charger, but there was no phone charger and there was a phone 'CHAGER' so I did not buy it. If you look like a foreigner and not a SriLankan, you need to be careful when look aroundMany merchants will be talking to you to sell just because you are a foreigner.

Day 2: Colombo, Sri Lanka to Kandy City Centre

Day 1:  Sri Lanka, Colombo International Airport

Airline meal

I know I shoud've put this picture in the 'Day 1' post. The meat was delicious, but I thought I wantedmore rice. Korean Air was not bad.

PickMe App Ride

Don't use Uber but PickMe App! TukTuk is only available at PickMe. Plus, Uber in Sri Lanka is more expensive than PickMe. Have you ever been in a taxi for four hours? I called a PickMe as soon as I arrived at Colombo International Airport and headed to Kandy City. If you look at the fuel efficiency at the dashboard, it says its fuel efficiency is 31.7km/litre. How good car it is?!

I had 7 hours long flight from Seoul to Colombo and arrived at the airport at around 4AM and 2 hours waiting for immigration. I was dang exhausted and I was kind of afraid of being kidnapped or getting robbed because I knew it takes 4 hours from the airport to Kandy City and I am very new to Sri Lanka and I don't understand Sri Lanka language at all (I doubted even where I was heading to). It costed about 5,000 rupees for 4 hours riding from Colombo Airport to Kandy City Centre.

I was afraid that the taxi driver did not concentrate on driving and watched TV.

But fortunately, I arrived safely at Kandy City. It took four hours and the price was about 5,000 rupees. When I arrived at KCC, there was something surrounded with big wall. It was an authentic market.

There is a bus, but there is no bus stop sign, and there is no line on the road, so you shouldbe really careful if you drive. There is nocrosswalk or traffic light, so when you cross the road, you should be careful.

It's the inside of the market. There are so many people. If you are not a Sri Lankan, merchants will tryto sell fruit to you at a ridiculous price. So if merchants say something, it is better to ignore them. Don't buy anything from them.

You can buy fruits at a store with a price tag,but avoid merchants who do not have a pricetag and continue to change prices. There were so many people, so I was worried about the hygienecondition.

Look at his feet, the fish man and look at the hands of the fish man. I was worried about hygiene because he was not wearing gloves and shoes so I did not buy anything. I really didn't want to go to the hospital or be hospitalized because of stomachache duringmy trip.

I didn't buy anything in the market. What you should be careful about is that there are a lot of people who want to cheat against foreigners.Itis best to be careful and ignore strangers whenthey talk. The reason I did not buy anything was that the price changed every time I asked the price, and I was worried about hygiene.

So I decided to go to the mart and buy a sidedish that I could eat with rice. When you are abroad, you are at risk of fallingimmunity, so it is good to eat foods that can take care of your health no matter whatyou eat. And at least if you go to the mart and buy something, you are not worried about being fraudulent.

SAMSUNG is everywhere

All the inside advertisements at the mart were Samsung. I was so proud that I was a Korean.

There was a burger king at the Sri Lanka Mart, but it was too expensive. If the price of food exceeds 850 lkr, it can be said to be expensive. So I wanted to eat Burger King, but I did not eatit and ate other things.I honestly can not remember what I ate.

Day1: Sri Lanka, Colombo International Airport

I will be posting an article about my first trip in 2019 at least one per day. From January, 2019 to February, 2019, I went to six different countries for trip and I took a bunch of pictures while I was traveling around the world! I wanted to share these amazing pictures with subscribers and.. stay tuned!

Samsung ad at immigration line

From Incheon, Seoul, South Korea to Colombo, Sri Lanka, if what I remember is right, it took about 6 hours by flight and its weather was way hotter than South Korea. Sri Lanka in January was much hotter than South Korea in January. I was in the line for immigration and there was an huge Samsung Ad right beside the immigration. I felt so proud of myself who is a Korean!

Samsung is Everywhere!

In Colombo international airport, could see Korea companies' ads easily. Korea was everywhere I went and Sri Lankan really liked me probably because I am from Korea. I've never expected Sri Lanka people to talk to me in Korean but there were quite many Sri Lankan who are into Korea culture and language! I was so surprised by looking at Sri Lanka people speaking Korean!

LG too!

All the Televisions are at the pick-up-luggage point are LG! So so proud of being a Korean. I had an economy class boarding pass and it took me about 90 minutes to pick up my luggage, while in Korea it takes only 30 minutes at the most.

LG is Everywhere!

After picking up my luggage, I was heading to the exit of the airport and there were so many trees wearing LG sash! I couldn't ask for more for the airport! Korea Pride!

Don't Book the Cheap Hotels

The things you have to consider the most when you travel and before you travle are absolutely accomodation, food, and transportation. I would say the accomodation takes more than 50% of part of the trip. If you can't sleep well whole nights, then  you will feel tired and whole your trip is not going to be fun. If you have already traveled out of your home country, you will understand what I am saying. In this post I will let you know why you should avoid booking cheap hotels and why it sucks. I have stayed in the cheapest hotels in New York City and San Francisco while I was traveling.

booking.com receipt

This is the booking.cxm receipt. This hotel is located in slightly near Chinatown in New York City and lots of homeless people were begging at the hotel's entrance. To be honest, its review on the app was not that good. Its average star point was 3.xx out of 5 stars. Though it wasn't good why I did book this hotel is just because the hotel was the cheapest option I could book and I did not have enough budget to spend more than certain amount. From Jan 19th to Jan 25th costed me $167.40 not including tax and some fees (cleaning fee, service fee and et cetera). As far as I remember it was about $220 or something. Since I stayed at there for 6 nights and 7 days it is $36.67 per night. Never bad price in New York city at least.

How it looks like

It wasn't badder or better for its price. Its facility and service and all the things like that were like price much enough (?). Nothing satisfies more than its price much. Look at the bed in the picture. The ladder that connects bed up and down is attachable. Every time I step on the ladder to go to bed it was squeaking. Not only the ladders but also stainless frame beds and everything was bad as hell. I didn't take a bathroom picture but it was like 'Hello no'. I couldn't not find the difference between hotel's bath room and the bathroom in battlefield. Don't forget. If you are not broke as hell, try to book AirBnb (It offers various discount event) or spend more money on sleeps (and food also because once you can't sleep well and eat well then your healthy gon cray and of course trip gon cray either). The best option you can have (if you have) is staying at your friend's house.
