밴쿠버 어학원의 현실 (The Reality Of Private English Academy in Vancouver)

 캐나다 밴쿠버 어딘가에 위치한 어학원입니다. 이 어학원은 많은 밴쿠버 내에서 학생들에게 인기가 좋은 어학원입니다. 국가별로 직원들도 있고 체계적인 레벨 테스트를 봅니다.

 It is a language institute located somewhere in Vancouver, Canada. This language institute is a popular language institute for students in many Vancouver. We have employees in each country, and we do a systematic level test.

 내가 어학원에 방문한 이유는 밴쿠버 시내에서 내가 한국인이라는 것을 알아보고 명함을 주면서 Free Trial Lesson(무료 수업)에 수강해보라고 홍보했다. 그래서 알겠다고 하고 어떤 곳인지 보기 위해 직접 찾아갔다.

 The reason why I visited the language institute was because I recognized that I was Korean in downtown Vancouver and gave my business card to promote to the Free Trial Lesson. So I said yes and went to see the place in person.

 한 클래스에 학생은 10명 ~ 15명 정도이다. 그리고 수준은 4단계로 나뉘어져 있어서 수준별 수업을 한다. 필자가 들어간 청강한 클래스 레벨은 2단계 수준이다 (4단계가 가장 잘 하는 레벨이다).

 일본, 한국, 멕시코, 브라질, 중국 다양한 국가에 온 20대 친구들이었다. 대부분 gap year였고, 한국 학생들은 워킹 홀리데이 혹은 어학연수를 목표로 온 학생들이다.

 그리고 밴쿠버 어학원 주변에는 이민 컨설팅 회사가 많이 있다. 중국, 한국, 일본 이민 컨설팅을 해주는데 비용은 상상 이상이다. 그래도 계속해서 이민을 원하는 사람들이 있어서 유지가 된다고 했다.
