Day 18: Ghirardelli Square(기라델리) and Palace of Fine Arts(팰리스 오브 파인아트)

 Ghirardelli(기라델리)가 무엇인지도 모르고 구글맵에서 추천 여행지라고 하길래 그냥 무작정 눈 뜨고 씻고 갔다. 기라델리 무엇인가 가는 길에 검색해보니 미국에서 두 번째로 오래된 초콜릿 회사라고 한다. 그럼 가기도 전에 그냥 초콜릿 가게도 있고 박물관 같은 것도 있겠네 라고 생각했다.

 Ghirardelli Square(기라델리 스퀘어) 입구. 관광객들에게 사진 핫 스팟이다. 안에 들어가면 초콜릿 가게, 식당이 있다. 초콜릿 가게에 가면 초콜릿 시식이 가능하다! 맛있다.

 미래에 본인의 회사가 저렇게 크게 조성된다면 기분이 아주 좋을 것 같군요.

 Ghirardelli 쪽 해변에서 보이는 저 다리가 Golden Gate Bridge(금문교)가 맞다. 아마 4 miles (6km) 쭉 걸어가면 Golden Gate Bridge(골든 게이트 브릿지)에 도착할 수 있다.

 팰리스 오브 파인 아츠(Palace Of Fine Arts) 내부에서 공연을 하는 길거리 공연단도 있었다. 노래도 하고, 피아노 연주하는 그런 길거리 아티스트가 있었다. 왠지 모르지만 그냥 흥미롭지는 않았다.

 Palace Of Fine Arts(팰리스 오브 파인 아츠). 날씨가 안 좋아서 그런지 딱히 볼 것은 없다. 맞은편 잔디에 앉아서 도시락을 먹으면 맛있을 것 같다. 하지만 땅이 축축해서 잔디에서 놀 수 없었다.

 결론:

  1. Ghirardelli 는 미국에서 두 번째로 오래된 초콜릿 회사이다.

  2. Ghirardelli 내 초콜릿 가게에서 초콜릿 시식이 가능하다.

  3. Palace Of Fine Arts 에서 길거리 공연도 있고 딱히 패스해도 좋은 관광지이다. 딱히 볼 것은 없다.

Day 14: San Francisco City Hall and China Town(차이나타운)

 샌프란시스코 2월 날씨가 원래 이런지는 모르겠는데 일주일 동안 계속 비가 오고 반복했다. 시청에 도착한 시간이 오후 3시인데 해가 안 보인다.

 I don't know if the February weather in San Francisco is always like this, but it rained and repeated for a week. I arrived at City Hall at 3 p.m., but I can't see the sun.

 이렇게 비가 오는데 운동을 하는 사람도 있다. 샌프란시스코 시청에 도착했는데 사실 이곳에 왜 왔는지 모르겠다. 

 I arrived at San Francisco City Hall and I didn't really know why I was there.

 역사가 있는 건축물은 한국과 많이 다른 느낌이다. 한국 시청이나 국가 건물은 대부분 신설이어서 깔끔한 빌딩 느낌인데 미국이나 유럽 시청 건물 같은 경우는 역사를 보여주는 느낌이다. 딱히 볼 것은 없다. 그냥 시청이 이렇게 생겼다 느낌. 밤에 오면 조명이 멋지다고 하는데 비가 계속 내려서 저녁에 또 다시 오고 싶진 않았다.

 곧 바로 차이나타운으로 향했다. 걷는 중 너무 배고파서 치폴레에서 치킨볼을 먹었다. 그리고 비가 오지만 다시 차이나타운으로 향했다. (샌프란시스코 차이나타운 근처에 치폴레가 많이 없다.)

 사실 이 곳이 입구인지 출구인지는 잘 모르겠다. 어찌 됐든 차이나타운의 시작을 알리는 장소이다.

 입구 바로 앞은 인기가 많은 가게가 많이 없는 것 같다. 안 쪽으로 더 들어가야 사람들이 많이 있다.

 나는 사실 어디 여행을 가더라도 차이나타운은 거의 무조건 안 간다. 차라리 중국에 가고 말지 차이나타운은 안 간다. 그런데 샌프란시스코 차이나타운을 방문한 이유는 미국에서 가장 큰 차이나타운이기도 하고 마친 시기가 Chinese New Year's Day랑 겹쳐서 어떤 행사를 할까 궁금해서 방문하게 되었다. 그런데 날씨 때문인지는 몰라도 솔직히 볼 것은 없었다.

 In fact, I rarely go to Chinatown, no matter where I go. But the reason why I visited Chinatown in San Francisco is because it is also the largest Chinatown in the U.S. and I came to visit because I was curious about what kind of event I would like to see because it overlaps with Chinese New Year's Day. But there was nothing to see frankly, whether because of the weather or not.

 모든 여행 일정이 날씨 잘못이다. 차이나타운에 아시아 관광객들은 없고 서양 사람들인데 아시아에 관심이 많은 사람들이 와서 사진도 찍고 진지하게 구경하는 것 같았다.

 The weather is bad for all travel. There were no many Asian tourists in Chinatown and people from the West who are interested in Asia came and took pictures quite seriously.

 이소룡 벽화! 중국 사람이지만 정말 존경하는 영화 배우이다! 이소룡 덕분에 아시아 영화 배우들의 해외 영화의 길과 진출이 보다 더 수월해진 것은 분명하다.

 Lee So Ryong(Bruce Lee) mural! He is Chinese, but he is a movie star who I really respect! Thanks to Lee, it is clear that Asian movie stars could debut in foreign movies.

 저팔계 배 부분에 Notorious B.I.G 라고 문신이 있네요.

 이런 저런 중국 스타일 벽화를 보는 재미가 있었습니다.

 그런데 중국은 절대 실망시키지 않는다. 이 곳에서 브랜드 의류를 구매할 수 있을 것이라고 생각하지 말자. 다 가품이다.

 But China never disappoints. Let's not think we can buy brand clothing here. It's all fake.

Day 12: LA Union Station to San Francisco(샌프란시스코)

 친구 집에서 5일 동안 잘 잤다. Uber를 타고 LA Union Station으로 갔다.  Uber option 중 가장 저렴한 Uber pool을 타고 LA Union Station으로 갔다.
 버스 출발 시간이 오전 8시이어서 아침에 일찍 일어나서 출발해야 했는데 Uber Pool을 타서 조금 위험할 뻔 했다. 우버 드라이버가 운행 도중에도 다른 승객의 탑승을 승낙할 수 있어서 조금 늦을 뻔 했지만 여유롭게 도착했다.

 I slept well for five days at my friend's house. I went to LA Union Station by Uber. I went to LA Union Station by Uber pool which is the cheapest among Uber options. It was 8 a.m. and I had to get up early in the morning, but it could have been a little dangerous because I rode Uber Pool. The Uber driver was able to accept other passengers' boarding even during the journey, almost late but leisurely arrived.

 이른 새벽 시간이어서 그런지 사람들이 많지는 않았다. It was early in the morning, so not many people were there.

 Only few stores in the station were open. 역에는 가게가 몇 개 안 열려 있었다.

 LA Union Station은 서울역 정도 크기로 정말 크다. 그래서 버스 출발 시간 보다 20분 정도 먼저 와서 자기 플랫폼 찾고 기다리는 것이 마음 편할 것 같다.

 The LA Union Station is about as big as Seoul Station. So I think it would be comfortable to come 20 minutes before the bus departure time to find and wait for my platform.

 플랫폼에서 조금 헤매긴 했는데 잘 버스에 탑승했다.

 I wandered a little bit on the platform, but I got on the bus well.

 LA는 어딜 가나 노숙자들이 많다. 항상 조심해야 한다.
 LA Union Station에 사람들이 기다리는 의자에 노숙자들이 자고 있었다.  그냥 서울역 같다.

 There are many homeless people everywhere in LA. Always be careful.

  누군가는 7시간 버스 탑승은 단거리라고 하는데 장난치냐고 묻고 싶다. 하루가 정말 느리게 지나간다. 버스에서 7시간 동안 할 것도 정말 아무 것도 없다. 만약 나처럼 장시간 메가버스를 타게 된다면 버스 탑승 전날 잠을 아끼고 버스에서 실컷 자는 것을 추천한다.

  Some people say that riding a 7-hour bus is short distance, but I want to ask if the person is kidding. The day passes really slowly. There's really nothing to do for seven hours on the bus. If you take the Megabus for a long time like me, I recommend you to save sleep and sleep on the bus as much as you want.

 이렇게 점심시간이 되면 휴게소에서 15분 동안 멈춘다. 그런데 15분 지나면 정말 짤 없이 출발한다. 사람들이 다 패스트 푸드를 사가지고 다시 버스에 탑승한다.

 At lunch time like this, they stop at the rest area for 15 minutes. But after 15 minutes, we'll leave without a hitch. Everyone buys fast food and gets back on the bus.

 계속 달린다. 어떠한 것도 보이지 않는다. 마치 컴퓨터 정지화면을 보는 것 같이 계속 이렇게 간다. 다른 탑승객들은 랩탑을 가져와서 영화를 보기도 하고, 책을 읽기도 했는데 나는 핸드폰 말고 없어서 핸드폰으로 사진찍고 인터넷도 하다가 지겨워서 몇 시간 자고 옆좌석 사람이랑 이야기도 하고 했는데도 7시간은 정말 너무 길다.

 The bus keeps running without stopping.

 미국 여행을 하면서 Horizon(수평선, 지평선)을 많이 보게 되는 것 같다. 한국에서는 거의 못 본 것 같은데 말이다.

 I think I saw a lot of Horizon (horizontal, horizon) on my trip to the U.S. I hardly think I've seen it in Korea.

 나는 오늘 오전 7시에 기상하고 오전 버스에 탑승했다. 그리고 버스를 타고 샌프란시스코 숙박업소에 도착하니 저녁 8시 쯤 됐었다. 몸은 얼마나 피곤한지 씻고 바로 잤다.

 샌프란시스코에 암스테르담이라는 호텔을 예약했는데 만약 이것을 보고 샌프란시스코 여행을 계획하는 한국인 관광객이 있다면 해주고 싶은 말은 이 호텔은 절대 가지 마라.

 I got up at 7 a.m. today and got on the bus in the morning. And when I arrived at San Francisco by bus, it was about 8 p.m. My body was so tired that I washed and slept right away.

 I have booked a hotel in San Francisco called Amsterdam, and if there's any tourist planning a trip to San Francisco I would never recommend this hotel.

Day 9: Hollywood(할리우드) and Griffith Observatory(그리피스 천문대)

 숙소에서 할리우드 거리에 도착했다. 현지 친구들이 할리우드에서 절대 눈에 띄는 행동을 하지 말라고 했다. 할리우드에 사기꾼들이 많다고 들었다.

 I arrived on the Hollywood street from my lodgings. Local friends told me never to stand out in Hollywood. I heard there are many crooks in Hollywood.

 숙소에서 할리우드까지 거의 30분 거리였다. 미국에서는 2시간 거리 정도면 보통 거리라고 했다.

 It was almost a half-hour drive from the hotel to Hollywood. In the U.S., it is said that a two-hour distance is a normal distance.

 중국 템플 같이 생긴 곳에서 사람들이 바닥만 보고 있는 이유가 있다!

 There's a reason why people are watching the floor in places that look like a Chinese temple!

 한국 사람들은 모두 여기 와서 사진을 찍는다!

 Torrence, Gardena, Compton, Orange County, Los Angeles 다 붙어 있어서 어디서 Uber를 타도 $30 안에서 해결된다. 대중교통을 타서 2시간을 소요하는 대신 비용을 아끼느냐, 시간을 아끼고 돈을 쓰느냐 문제다. 같이 여행하면 Uber를 타도 저렴하게 탈 수 있으니 같이 여행하면 숙소, 교통, 음식 가격이 혼자 여행할 때 보다 저렴하니 친구랑 같이 여행하는 것이 더 좋다.

 Torrence, Gardena, Compton, Orange County, and Los Angeles are all attached, so wherever you ride the Uber, it will be resolved within $30. Instead of taking public transportation for two hours, it is a matter of saving money or spending money. If you travel together, you can ride Uber cheaply, so if you travel together, the cost of accommodation, transportation, and food is cheaper than traveling alone, so it's better to travel with your friends.

 터키 커피가 맛있는지는 모르겠다. 사람들이 커피를 마시려고 줄을 서는데 아마도 바리스타 누나가 말을 잘해서 그런 것 같다.

 I don't know if Turkish coffee is good. People are lining up for coffee, and maybe it's because Barista's sister is a good talker (or maybe Turkiey has a different way of making coffee).

 금인지 도금인지는 모르겠는 르브론 농구화. 정말 멋있지 않나. 미국은 길거리에서 먹는 음식은 모두 비싸다. 마트에서 사는 원재료는 저렴한데 말이다.

 I don't know if it's gold or plated, but LeBron basketball shoes. It's really cool. In the U.S., all foods eaten on the streets are expensive. Raw materials that live in the mart are cheap.

 former harlem globetrotters player; 전 할렘 글로브트로터 선수이다. 농구를 좋아하는 사람이면 이 팀은 대부분 알 것이라고 생각한다. 할렘 글로브트로터 선수의 평균 연봉이 연 $75,000 으로 충분하다고 들었다. 그런데 은퇴하고 나서는 길거리에서 농구를 하면서 사람들에게 팁을 받는다. 그런데 바구니에 담긴 돈의 금액을 보면 거의 대기업 사원 급이다.

 He is former a Harlem Globetrotter player. If you like basketball, I think you know the team. I heard that Harlem Globetrotter's average annual salary is $75,000 which is enough. But after retirement, the players do show on the street and get tips from people by playing basketball on the street. They still get paid a lot tho.

 길거리 래퍼, 길거리 농구선수, 길거리 미키마우스 등등 많은데 절대 무시가 최고고 만약 그들과 대화를 하고 싶다고 해도 돈을 내야 한다ㅋㅋㅋ 사실 돈을 안 줘도 되는데 자구 말을 걸고 귀찮게 한다. 필자는 한 번 당했는데 돈을 절대 안 줬다. 영어를 완전 못 하거나, 완전 무시하거나, 완전 영어를 잘해서 역관광 해야 한다. 듣는 척이라도 해주는 순간 반강매 시작이다.

 There are many street rappers, street basketball players, street Mickey Mouse, and so on, but the absolute best thing is to ignore and even if you want to talk to them, you have to pay. You must either speak English completely, ignore it completely, or do not speak English well so you should go back sightseeing. As soon as you pretend to listen, it's the start of a semicircle.

 명동에서 볼거리는 있어도 할 것은 없듯이 할리우드도 거의 비슷하다. 그래서 다시 Uber(우버)를 타곡 Griffith Observatory(그리피스 천문대)로 이동했다. Uber(우버)를 부를 때도 영어를 잘 못하는 관광객이 나한테 와서 전화를 받아 달라고 했는데 미국 여행 할 때 영어를 잘 못하면 불안할 수 있다. 여행할 때 현지 언어를 잘 모르면 그냥 구글 번역기를 잘 쓰는 연습을 하고 가도 괜찮다. 굳이 어정쩡하게 말하려고 하지 말라. 할리우드에서 우버를 불렀는데 또 20분 정도 기다렸고 Uber pool(우버 풀)을 탔는데 모두 다른 장소에서 내리는 두 사람이 이미 타고 있었다. 그래서 천문대까지 가는데 거의 한 시간이 걸렸다. 

 Hollywood is almost the same, as there is nothing to see and nothing to do in Myeong-dong So I moved Uber back to the tapered Griffith Observatory. Even when I call Uber, a tourist who is not good at English came to me and asked me to answer the phone, but when I travel to the U.S., I can feel uneasy if I don't speak English well. If you don't know the local language well when you travel, you can practice using Google Translator well. Don't try to speak with a grain of salt. I sang Uber in Hollywood, waited for another 20 minutes and rode Uber Pool, both of whom had already been on board. So it took almost an hour to get to the observatory.

 천문 박물관은 누구에게나 무료로 열려있다. 우주에 관심이 있는 사람이면 흥미롭게 박물관을 즐길 수 있다. 박물관이 조용한 분위기는 아니었고 사람들로 붐벼서 대화하면서 관람할 수 있다.

 The astronomical museum is open to everyone for free. Anyone interested in space can enjoy the museum with interest. The museum was not in a quiet atmosphere and was crowded so you can watch it while talking.

 아인슈타인 독일에서 왔다고 차별하니?

 Do you discriminate that Einstein is from Germany?

 멋지다!

 Just terrific! What more can I say? 

 그리피스 천문대(Griffith Observatory)에서 걸어서 내려갔다. 그런데 숙소로 가려고 Uber를 불렀는데 진짜 street lamp가 밝지 않고 길에 혼자 다니는 사람이 필자 외에는 없어서 정말 무서웠다. LA에서 대중교통을 한 번이라도 이용해 보려고 버스 정류장까지 혼자 걸어서 가려고 했으나 저녁 8:30에 혼자 다니는 것 조차 무서워서 곧 바로 Uber(우버)를 불렀다. 그렇게 Uber Pool을 타니까 또 다른 사람이 반대편 방향에서 탔다. 그렇게 30분거리를 교통 체증까지 겹쳐서 거의 90분 동안 타고 숙소에 도착했다. 멍청한 짓을 많이 했다.

 I was supposed to catch a bus at the nearest station from the Griffith Observatory so I walked down to the station from the top of the mountain where the observatory is all by myself. It was around 8:30 p.m. but I was too scared since there's no bright street lamp and there's no single person who walking on the street. I couldn't see anything around so called an Uber driver real quick, and waited behind the tree until the Uber came. Yes. I am a coward.
