Day 9: Hollywood(할리우드) and Griffith Observatory(그리피스 천문대)

 숙소에서 할리우드 거리에 도착했다. 현지 친구들이 할리우드에서 절대 눈에 띄는 행동을 하지 말라고 했다. 할리우드에 사기꾼들이 많다고 들었다.

 I arrived on the Hollywood street from my lodgings. Local friends told me never to stand out in Hollywood. I heard there are many crooks in Hollywood.

 숙소에서 할리우드까지 거의 30분 거리였다. 미국에서는 2시간 거리 정도면 보통 거리라고 했다.

 It was almost a half-hour drive from the hotel to Hollywood. In the U.S., it is said that a two-hour distance is a normal distance.

 중국 템플 같이 생긴 곳에서 사람들이 바닥만 보고 있는 이유가 있다!

 There's a reason why people are watching the floor in places that look like a Chinese temple!

 한국 사람들은 모두 여기 와서 사진을 찍는다!

 Torrence, Gardena, Compton, Orange County, Los Angeles 다 붙어 있어서 어디서 Uber를 타도 $30 안에서 해결된다. 대중교통을 타서 2시간을 소요하는 대신 비용을 아끼느냐, 시간을 아끼고 돈을 쓰느냐 문제다. 같이 여행하면 Uber를 타도 저렴하게 탈 수 있으니 같이 여행하면 숙소, 교통, 음식 가격이 혼자 여행할 때 보다 저렴하니 친구랑 같이 여행하는 것이 더 좋다.

 Torrence, Gardena, Compton, Orange County, and Los Angeles are all attached, so wherever you ride the Uber, it will be resolved within $30. Instead of taking public transportation for two hours, it is a matter of saving money or spending money. If you travel together, you can ride Uber cheaply, so if you travel together, the cost of accommodation, transportation, and food is cheaper than traveling alone, so it's better to travel with your friends.

 터키 커피가 맛있는지는 모르겠다. 사람들이 커피를 마시려고 줄을 서는데 아마도 바리스타 누나가 말을 잘해서 그런 것 같다.

 I don't know if Turkish coffee is good. People are lining up for coffee, and maybe it's because Barista's sister is a good talker (or maybe Turkiey has a different way of making coffee).

 금인지 도금인지는 모르겠는 르브론 농구화. 정말 멋있지 않나. 미국은 길거리에서 먹는 음식은 모두 비싸다. 마트에서 사는 원재료는 저렴한데 말이다.

 I don't know if it's gold or plated, but LeBron basketball shoes. It's really cool. In the U.S., all foods eaten on the streets are expensive. Raw materials that live in the mart are cheap.

 former harlem globetrotters player; 전 할렘 글로브트로터 선수이다. 농구를 좋아하는 사람이면 이 팀은 대부분 알 것이라고 생각한다. 할렘 글로브트로터 선수의 평균 연봉이 연 $75,000 으로 충분하다고 들었다. 그런데 은퇴하고 나서는 길거리에서 농구를 하면서 사람들에게 팁을 받는다. 그런데 바구니에 담긴 돈의 금액을 보면 거의 대기업 사원 급이다.

 He is former a Harlem Globetrotter player. If you like basketball, I think you know the team. I heard that Harlem Globetrotter's average annual salary is $75,000 which is enough. But after retirement, the players do show on the street and get tips from people by playing basketball on the street. They still get paid a lot tho.

 길거리 래퍼, 길거리 농구선수, 길거리 미키마우스 등등 많은데 절대 무시가 최고고 만약 그들과 대화를 하고 싶다고 해도 돈을 내야 한다ㅋㅋㅋ 사실 돈을 안 줘도 되는데 자구 말을 걸고 귀찮게 한다. 필자는 한 번 당했는데 돈을 절대 안 줬다. 영어를 완전 못 하거나, 완전 무시하거나, 완전 영어를 잘해서 역관광 해야 한다. 듣는 척이라도 해주는 순간 반강매 시작이다.

 There are many street rappers, street basketball players, street Mickey Mouse, and so on, but the absolute best thing is to ignore and even if you want to talk to them, you have to pay. You must either speak English completely, ignore it completely, or do not speak English well so you should go back sightseeing. As soon as you pretend to listen, it's the start of a semicircle.

 명동에서 볼거리는 있어도 할 것은 없듯이 할리우드도 거의 비슷하다. 그래서 다시 Uber(우버)를 타곡 Griffith Observatory(그리피스 천문대)로 이동했다. Uber(우버)를 부를 때도 영어를 잘 못하는 관광객이 나한테 와서 전화를 받아 달라고 했는데 미국 여행 할 때 영어를 잘 못하면 불안할 수 있다. 여행할 때 현지 언어를 잘 모르면 그냥 구글 번역기를 잘 쓰는 연습을 하고 가도 괜찮다. 굳이 어정쩡하게 말하려고 하지 말라. 할리우드에서 우버를 불렀는데 또 20분 정도 기다렸고 Uber pool(우버 풀)을 탔는데 모두 다른 장소에서 내리는 두 사람이 이미 타고 있었다. 그래서 천문대까지 가는데 거의 한 시간이 걸렸다. 

 Hollywood is almost the same, as there is nothing to see and nothing to do in Myeong-dong So I moved Uber back to the tapered Griffith Observatory. Even when I call Uber, a tourist who is not good at English came to me and asked me to answer the phone, but when I travel to the U.S., I can feel uneasy if I don't speak English well. If you don't know the local language well when you travel, you can practice using Google Translator well. Don't try to speak with a grain of salt. I sang Uber in Hollywood, waited for another 20 minutes and rode Uber Pool, both of whom had already been on board. So it took almost an hour to get to the observatory.

 천문 박물관은 누구에게나 무료로 열려있다. 우주에 관심이 있는 사람이면 흥미롭게 박물관을 즐길 수 있다. 박물관이 조용한 분위기는 아니었고 사람들로 붐벼서 대화하면서 관람할 수 있다.

 The astronomical museum is open to everyone for free. Anyone interested in space can enjoy the museum with interest. The museum was not in a quiet atmosphere and was crowded so you can watch it while talking.

 아인슈타인 독일에서 왔다고 차별하니?

 Do you discriminate that Einstein is from Germany?

 멋지다!

 Just terrific! What more can I say? 

 그리피스 천문대(Griffith Observatory)에서 걸어서 내려갔다. 그런데 숙소로 가려고 Uber를 불렀는데 진짜 street lamp가 밝지 않고 길에 혼자 다니는 사람이 필자 외에는 없어서 정말 무서웠다. LA에서 대중교통을 한 번이라도 이용해 보려고 버스 정류장까지 혼자 걸어서 가려고 했으나 저녁 8:30에 혼자 다니는 것 조차 무서워서 곧 바로 Uber(우버)를 불렀다. 그렇게 Uber Pool을 타니까 또 다른 사람이 반대편 방향에서 탔다. 그렇게 30분거리를 교통 체증까지 겹쳐서 거의 90분 동안 타고 숙소에 도착했다. 멍청한 짓을 많이 했다.

 I was supposed to catch a bus at the nearest station from the Griffith Observatory so I walked down to the station from the top of the mountain where the observatory is all by myself. It was around 8:30 p.m. but I was too scared since there's no bright street lamp and there's no single person who walking on the street. I couldn't see anything around so called an Uber driver real quick, and waited behind the tree until the Uber came. Yes. I am a coward.

Day 8: Santa Monica(산타 모니카) And Beverly Hills(베벌리 힐스)

미국 서부 여행과 동부 뉴욕 여행의 가장 큰 차이점이라고 한다면 날씨와 사람들이라고 말할 수 있다.

 친구 집에서 베니스 비치로 또 Uber를 타고 이동~. Torrence 쪽에서 Venice Beach 까지 이동하니까 $28 정도 나온 것으로 기억한다.

 Heading to Venice Beach by Uber again. I remember the Uber cost from Torrence to Venice Beach was around $28. Even if you don't want to call an Uber driver there's no other option unless you have your own car.

 토요일의 베니스 비치는 굉장히 여유롭다. 뉴욕과 다르게 정말 사람들이 모두 여유롭다.

 Venice Beach on Saturday is very relaxed. Unlike New York City, people are really relaxed.

 태양은 강하고 구름은 없다. 미국 서부의 날씨는 정말 아름다웠다. 한국 서울에도 이런 여유를 만끽할 수 있는 장소가 있으면 좋겠다는 생각을 여러번 했다. 이런 여유를 따라할 수는 있을까?

 The sun is strong and there are no clouds. The weather in the west coast of the United States was really beautiful. Many times, I thought it would be nice to have a place where I can enjoy such leisure in Seoul. I doubt that Seoul can imitate this kind of leisure.

 저 아파트에 사는 사람들은 엄청 부자라고 들었다. 서부 지역이 바다로 둘러 싸여있는데 바닷가에 있는 집에 사는 사람들은 모두 경제적으로 여유로운 사람들이라고 들었다.

 I heard that the people who live in that apartment are very rich. The western part of the country is surrounded by the sea and I heard that all the people who live in houses by the sea are economically abundant.

 미국 여행 중 마약, 술, 담배, 클럽, 밤 문화를 즐기지 않았다. 만약 건전한 관광객인 내가 꼭 다시 가고 싶은 곳이 있다면 뉴욕과 Hermosa Beach는 꼭 다시 가고 싶다. Santa Monica도 기대를 하고 갔지만 Santo Monica 보다 더 큰 여유는 Hermosa Beach에 있는 것 같다.

 During the trip to the United States, I did not enjoy drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, clubs, or night culture. If there is a place that I can go again as a healthy tourist, certainly I want to go to New York and Hermosa Beach again.

 요가를 배우는 사람들이 바닷가에 있었다. 한국에서는 야외에서 요가를 단체로 하는 사람들을 본 적 없다. 신선한 경험이었다. 캘리포니아(California)는 마약이 합법이기 때문에 마약을 하는 사람들을 쉽게 볼 수 있다. 길거리에서 그런 사람들을 보면 눈을 마주치지 말고 조심스럽게 피해 다니는 것이 좋다. 괜히 마약 강매당할 가능성이 있다.

 There were people learning yoga on the beach. I've never seen people doing yoga in groups outdoors in Korea. It was a fresh experience. You can easily see people who do drugs because it's legal in California. When you see such people on the street, you'd better avoid eye contact. There is a possibility of drug trafficking for nothing.

 사람들이 이 곳에서 사진을 많이 찍는다. 미국 사람들은 국내 여행을 자주한다고 들었다. 한국도 국내 여행을 할 수 있는 장소와 attraction?이 많아졌으면 좋겠다.

 People take a lot of pictures here. I heard that people in the U.S. often travel in the country. I hope Korea has more places to travel in the country and attraction.

주말에 가면 사람들이 정말 많다. 다들 놀러 온다.

 어디서 사진을 찍어도 사람들이 정말 많다. 조용한 관광지는 확실히 아니다. 위 사진에 보이는 다리에서는 다양한 재주꾼들이 많다. 마술사, 웅변하는 사람, 잡다한 상인들이 쇼를 한다. 진짜 재밌는 마술을 하는 사람은 팁을 많이 받는다. 한 번 마술 할 때 마다 거의 $100 ~ $200 씩 받으니까 하루에 4번만 해도...

 No matter where you take your picture, there are so many people. It is certainly not a quiet tourist spot. The bridge shown in the picture above is full of various craftsmen. Magicians, eloquent people, and miscellaneous merchants do the show. People who do really funny magic get a lot of tips.

 사람들이 바다에 먹이를 주니까 돌고래가 와서 재롱을 피운다.

 People feed dorphins in the sea, so dolphins come and play.

 수평선. 한국에서는 수평선을 한 번도 보지 못한 것 같은데 미국 서부에서는 흔히 볼 수 있었다.

 The horizon. I don't think I've ever seen the horizon in Korea, but it's common in the western United States.

 솔직히 Santa Monica 해변에서 사람들이 이것 저것 먹고 쓰레기를 안 치워서 조금 더럽긴 하다. 그래도 해운대나 광안리만큼 더럽진 않다.

 Frankly, it's a little dirty because people don't clean up after eating at Santa Monica Beach. Still, it is not as dirty as Haeundae or Gwangalli.

 나는 길거리 상인들이 무엇을 사라고 하면 절대 구매하지 않는다. 필자는 필요한 물건이 있으면 직접 가서 사는 편이지 절대 길거리 상인들이 불쌍하다고 물건 안 산다. 한국에서는 길거리 상인들이 거의 안 보이는데 모르겠다 (지하철 상인들은 없어져야 한다고 생각한다).

I never buy anything when street vendors ask me to buy. I tend to buy things myself if I need them, but I never buy them because I feel sorry for street vendors.

 Santa Monica(산타 모니카)에서 다시 Uber를 부르고 Beverly Hills(베벌리 힐스)로 이동했다! Santa Monica에서 Uber(우버)를 부르는데 20분은 기다린 것 같다. 사람들이 엄청 Uber를 불러서 엄청 기다려야 한다.

 I called Uber again from Santa Monica and moved to Beverly Hills! I think I waited 20 minutes to sing Uber at Santa Monica. People are calling Uber so much that we have to wait.

 돈이 많은 사람들에게는 베벌리 힐스(Beverly Hills)가 재미있는 관광장소일테지만 필자에게는 그냥 딱히 할 것이 없는 관광지였다. 그냥 이런 곳에서는 어떤 사람들이 살고 있나 궁금해서 방문했다.

 중국, 중동 사람들이 눈에 띄게 많았다. 그리고 쇼핑몰 거리이다 보니까 패션 모델 같은 사람들도 여럿 보였다. 나는 패션도 잘 모르고 돈도 없어서 주변만 두리번 두리번 거리고 왔다.

 There were noticeably many people from China and the Middle East. And since it was a shopping mall street, I could see many people like fashion models. I don't know much about fashion and I don't have any money, so I've been walking around.

Chinese model? Maybe. Many Chinese took pictures here against the backdrop of a fountain.

Day 7: Arrival in LAX and Hermosa Beach

 LAX에 도착하니 몸이 뜨거웠다. JFK에서 비행기를 타기 전까지만 해도 물이 얼을 정도의 추위를 느꼈는데 LAX에 도착하고 날씨가 정말 좋아서 자동적으로 기분이 좋아졌다. 날씨가 인간의 기분에 미치는 영향은 어마한 것 같다. 조금 부정적이어도 날씨가 화창하면 인간의 기분이 조금은 나아질 것이라고 생각한다.

 우버를 타고 공항에서 이동! LA 우버는 뉴욕 우버보다 비교적 저렴한 느낌이다. 실제로 같은 거리를 이동해도 가격이 저렴했다. 그런데 LA는 관광지 사이 거리가 길어서 우버를 많이 탔다가는 금방 거지가 될 수 있다 (내가 그랬다).

친구 집에 들려서 허모사 비치에 도착~ Hermosa Beach.

 LA에 도착하기 전에 Long Beach, Santa Monica, Venice Beach 이 정도 해변만 알고 있을 사람들이 많이 있을 것 같다. 나 역시 Hermosa Beach 는 몰랐다. 그런데 정말 너무 좋다. 굳이 비교하자면 Santa Monica & Venice Beach 는 관광화가 심하게 된 해변 느낌이고 Hermosa Beach 는 관광화가 안되고 자연 그대로 같은? 정말 휴식하기 좋은 해변 같이 느껴진다. 관광객들이 Santa Monica(산타 모니카)랑 베니스 비치에 모두 가 있어서 Hermosa Beach(허모사 비치)는 더 조용하고 자연을 더 느낄 수 있다.

관광객은 거의 없고 현지인들이 많다. 정말 조용하다.

야경 또한 멋지고, 해안가에서 맛난 음식도 먹을 수 있다. 쇼핑도 할 수 있는데 너무 비싸서 추천하지는 않는다.
