편의점 일하면서 힘들었던 점 / Things I have struggled while working at CVS

Old people come to the CVS where I worked at every day. 내가 일하는 편의점에 노가다 아저씨들이 매일 왔다. 믿을 수 없을 정도로.

낮이나 밤이나 새벽이나 저녁이나 매일 왔다. No matter what time it is, these people came to the place. 노가다 아저씨들이 일을 구하면 일을 구했다고 오고, 일을 못 구하면 시간 보낼 곳이 없으니까 편의점에서 계속 있는다. If they find a job to do for a day, then I come to have a cup of coffee. If they couldn't find a job to do, then they stay at here for hours since they have nowhere to go until the sun downs.

These kinds of people were very impolite and rude to even strangers. When I saw them for the first time, how they spoke to me was very rude. In Korea, you know when you talk to someone for the first time you have to talk to them with honorifics but they didn't. 노가다 아저씨들은 굉장히 무례했다. 처음보는 사람에게도 반말을 하고 이것 저것 시켰다.

I am grateful for God who gave me a chance to see them while working at the CVS because I found that not all the people who looks for a job is not nice and not all the people in need are nice. 나는 편의점에서의 경험을 감사하게 생각한다. 왜냐하면 필자는 경제적으로 어려운 모든 사람이 모두 착하지 않다라는 것을 크게 깨달았다. Being nice or something can be defined by one's environment but one's character. 착하고 나쁜 것은 인간의 환경에서 결정되는 것이 아니라 한 사람의 성격에서 나오는 것을 알게 되었다. 

항상 와서는 "담배" 이랬다. 그래서 내가 "어떤 담배요?" 이러면 손가락 하나로 가르키기만 했다. 나는 그들의 담배를 계산하는 순간을 극도로 싫어했다. They always were like "Hey! Cigarette!" Then I was like " What cigarette?" and they were pointing the pack of cigarette they want not saying anything. I hated the moment when I ring packs of cigarettes of them.

나는 그들이 잘 생겼든 못 생겼든 돈이 많든 적든 신경 쓸 필요없다. I don't care if they have good looking or not. I don't even care how much they have because I was a person who ring what customers want to buy. 나는 손님의 물건을 계산하는 사람이니까 말이다. However there's something does exist called "Politeness" 하지만 예의라는 것이 존재하기는 한다.

Extreme Job CVS Part Time Job

어느날 어느 50대 남성이 와서 계산도 안하고 편의점에서 술을 몰래 다 마셨다. 그리고 편의점 바깥에서 쓰러지고 자기 자식을 찾았다. 편의점 알바 시간대가 야간 시간대도 아니고 주말 오전 시간대였는데 술을 마시고 취해서 자기 자식을 찾는다니 믿을 수 없다. 세상은 넓고 미친놈들은 많다.

One day one 50s adult came to CVS and kept wandered around and he empty Soju bottle silently behind without paying. Of course he became drunk and laid down on the CVS floor. My work-time was not even late night time I was working during daytime on weekends. World is huge and lots of crazy people coexist. Couldn't believe that he was looking for his only son drinking Soju at CVS. Who knows where is your son at?

It looks like he down his knees and he is praying but he was spitting and doing bad mouths.

사진만 보면 기도하는 것 처럼 보이는데 사실은 침 뱉고 욕하고 있었다. 편의점 주말 오전 시간대에 취객이 올거라고 믿을 수 있을까. 이런 경우에는 빠르게 경찰을 소환해서 무전취식, 편의점내음주 이런 걸로 신고해야한다. 편의점을 하려면 나름 법 공부를 해야한다. If you want to work at CVS I feel like you should take Introduction to Law. 

경찰이 뭐라 뭐라 해도 소용이 없다. 왜냐하면 이미 의식을 잃었고 저 취객 아저씨랑 대화하는 것은 불가능한 수준이 되어버렸다. 늦었다. 계산은 누가할까. 나는 그게 두려웠다. 계산을 누구도 안 하면 내 월급에서 까인다. 그런데 경찰이 이름만 알아내서 어찌 어찌 저 아저씨 집에다 전화해서 아들 소환하고 아들이 결제하고 돌아갔다. 그런데 그 부모에 그 자식이라고 죄송하단 말 한 마디도 없었다. 내가 주말 오전 출근하고나서 부터 얼마나 고생했는데.

I went to the point where communication is impossible. The police officer tried to talk to him to find out where he lives but he spitted bullshit and did not even listen to what the officer said. The police officer anyways found out the address of where he lives and phone number of his wife. The officer called his son and son paid the bottle of Soju.

술을 정말 마시고 싶으면 집에서 마시지만 안 마시는 것을 추천합니다. I do highly recommend you to drink alcohol at your home but not drinking is the best option we have gotten honestly.

내가 몇 년 전에 편의점 알바를 하는데 가끔 다음 근무자로 점장이 나왔다. 점장이 나오는 날은 시간약속을 전혀 지키지 않는다. 정말 화가 났다. 그런데 어느 날은 자기 매장이면서 담배를 피면서 들어와서 진짜 깜짝 놀랐다. 심지어 편의점 안에 손님이 없었던 것도 아니었다. 이건 사진으로 남겨야지 하고 다음 근무 왔을때 몰래 CCTV 뚫고 사진 찍어서 남겼다. 이걸 보면서 40대, 50대는 어렸을 적에 공중도덕을 잘 못 배웠었나 이런 생각이 들었다. When I worked for CVS a few years ago, sometimes the owner came to the workplace without notice. I was so surprised when he came to the workplace smoking around in the CVS. I could not believe that seeing in real. I was like "What is inside of 40s and 50s head?"

지금 보고도 믿을 수가 없다.

Still cannot believe it even though I am seeing this writing a post.

Please somebody tell me it ain't real !

Perks of working at CVS !

내가 일했던 편의점장은 나름 친절했다. 내가 퇴직한 이후 얼마 안돼서 편의점이 망하기는 했지만 하루에 한가지 씩 먹을 수 있도록 허락해주었다. 일하면서 가끔 기분 좋을 때는 손님들이 열심히하라고 음식을 사주기도 한다. 위에 음식은 유통기한이 지난 음식과 손님이 사준 똑같은 음식이 하루에 3개 나왔다. 그래서 집에 가져가서 배고플 때 마다 꺼내 먹었던 기억이 난다. 야간 아르바이트를 하면 계산은 오후 시간대 보다 덜 하기는 하지만 밤과 낮이 바뀐다는 것이 절대 쉽지 않다. 밤과 낮이 바뀐 생활을 하는 사람 중에 정신병이 온다는 사람들도 종종 뉴스에서 본 것 같은데 실제로 그럴 가능성이 있을 것 같다는 생각을 했다. 왜냐하면 밤낮이 바뀌면 주위에 같이 대화를 할 사람이 없고 모든 일도 혼자 하기 마련이고 사람들을 만날 일이 매우 줄어든다. 그렇기 때문에 사교성 결여나 이런 정신적 문제가 생기는 것이 아닌가 싶다. 어찌 됐든, 저렇게 편의점에서 일하면서 손님이 음식을 사주는 경우는 매우 드물다. 두 달에 한 번 정도이다. 작은 음식이더라도 너무나 감사하고 그 감사함을 아직까지도 기억한다. 나도 언젠가는 감사를 베풀 수 있는 인간이 되기를 소망한다. 여러분들 역시 다른 사람들에게 도움이 되고 배려를 베풀 수 있는 독자가 되기를 소망한다.

The owner of the CVS where I used to work at was very nice. Though the CVS went bankrupt few months later I quit, the owner allowed me to eat one product per day while I was working at late night. Not very often but very once in a while customer bought me foods. The picture above is consist of what customer bought me and two of them are expired products. This happened about once per two months, of course not very often because strangers don't have any duty to buy part time job something. I was just so grateful that customers recognized my hard work at late night and I do still remember what they have done for me, the gratefulness. I hope myself can be a person who can keep doing good and be nice to other  people. I don't want to cut off the continuation of gratefulness. Though two of them were expired I do still count it as a service and gratefulness. I hope you readers also can be nice to people and can keep do good things on earth. Peace out! 결국 편의점 알바의 장점은 음식을 공짜로 먹을 수 있다는 점이다. Conclusion of this post is you can have a meal for free once you be a CVS part time and only if you meet nice owner.
