The Battery Monuments

Battery Park 배터리파크는 한국 용산의 전쟁기념관 같은 곳이다. 

 Battery Park에서 개인 보트를 타고 자유의 여신상을 보러 갈 수도 있다. 가격은 정말 비싼데 단체로 가면 할인이 되나 보다.

 You can also go to see the Statue of Liberty in a private boat at Battery Park.

뉴욕에 기념비와 환경을 조성하는데 기부한 기업 리스트이다. 미국 기업도 있고 한국 기업도 많다. 현대, 삼성이 아무리 욕을 먹어도 애국 기업이라는 것은 변함 없다.

 한국 전쟁에 참전한 미군의 사상자 수를 기록한 기념비이다. 미군 54,246 명이 사망, 103,248 명이 부상, 8,177 명이 실종됐다. 그들의 희생은 존경 받아 마땅하다.

 It is a monument that records the number of U.S. casualties in the Korean War. A total of 54,246 U.S. soldiers were killed, 103,248 were injured and 8,177 were missing. Their sacrifices deserve respect.

내가 이해한 내용이 맞다면, 세계2차대전에서 목숨을 잃은 군인들에게 전하는 메시지이다. "주의 손안으로"

"Erected by the United States of America in proud and grateful remembrance of her sons who gave their lives in her service and who sleep in the American costal waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Into Thy Hands, O Lord." , "In addition to the 4,597 American servicemen honored here who lost their lives in her service and who sleep in the American coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean the United States of America honors the 6,185 seamen of the United States Merchant Marine and the 529 seamen of the United States Army Transport Service who lost their lives during World War II."

사상자들의 이름, 계급, 사망 시기를 기록한 비석들이다. These are the tombstones that record the names, ranks and timing of the casualties.

 여행 중 계획 없이 방문한 곳에서 자연스럽게 숙여해지고 참전한 군인분들에게 감사함을 가지게 되었다. 이 글을 작성하면서 다시 존경을 표하게 되었다. 

 be grateful to the soldiers who fought in the war. This writing has brought me back to my respect.

Day 1: Arrival at JFK International Airport

 홍콩에서 13시간 30분에 걸쳐서 뉴욕 JFK 공항에 도착. 13시간 30분 비행. 기내식만 3번. 기내식 3번은 처음 해보는 경험이었다. 그런데 문득 궁금해진 것이 비행기에 400명 정도 탔으면 1,200인 분 식사를 어디에 보관하고 있던 것일까? 1,200인 분 식사를 보관하는 냉장고가 비행기 안에 있다는 상상이 안 된다.

 From Hong Kong to New York, the United States of America, it took about 13 hours and 30 minutes. I had three airline meals in the flight, and this was the first time I had three meals in a flight. Also, I've never taken this long flight before in my lifetime. I was wondering how can an airplane store 1,200 meals? Can't image there's a refrigerator that can hold 1,200 meals in an airplane.

 공항에 도착하고 할 일들이 많았다. 어떠한 준비도 안 하고 미국에 도착했다. 어떠한 준비도 안 했다(비자 신청 제외). 도착해서 AT&T를 찾고 직원이 올 때까지 기다린 다음에 SIM CARD를 구매하고, 구매한 다음에 Uber, Lyft, Booking.com을 다운로드하고 가입하고 예약했다. booking닷컴이 의심스러워서 전화도 해보고 lyft 기사한테 전화도 하고 기다렸다. 공항에서 군것질도 하고. 그렇게 아침 7시까지 기다리고 부킹닷컴에서 컨펌 전화를 받고 차를 타고 도착했다.

 There were many things I had to because I have not prepared anything before arrived in the states. I waited at the AT&T until a staff came, and bought an 30 days unlimited Sim Card. Downloaded must-apps like Lyft, Uber and booking.com. Signed in all these apps and booked a hotel room right away.

오전 7시에 공항에 나오니 정말 추웠고 새벽 공항 같은 느낌이 들었다. 택시들이 정말 많았는데, 사람들이 정말 부지런하다는 생각을 했다. 미국에 오기 전에 택시는 절대 타지 말라고 해서 한 달 동안 한 번도 안 탔다.

I went out to catch a lyft driver but I was kind of wandered because it was my first out in about 20 hours (From Hong Kong until then I have not outed).

 터미널 이동하는 데 무료로 탈 수 있는 공항 익스프레스. 나름 빠르다. Free airport express. Quite fast.

Dropped by a hotel that I stayed for 7 days and stored my baggage until check-in. Between these times, I decided to go to where I craved to visit. The place was 'Notorious Biggie's Wall'. aka 'Biggie Mural'. 

 이번 관광지도 아시아 사람은 필자 혼자였다. 그래서 또 사람들이 쳐다보고 나에게 사진 좀 찍어달라고 했다. 뉴욕에 도착 하자마자 방문한 곳인데 날씨가 별로이긴 했지만 방문하고 싶은 곳에 방문해서 정말 느낌이 색달랐다.

 At this place, there were no other Asians except me. People at there looked at me and asked me if can take a picture of them with their phones. Funny. Tho the day's weather was foggy but it was very good to be where I wanted to visit.

 Biggie Mural에서 사진 찍고 곧 바로 New York Metro를 타고 The Oculus로 이동했다.

 I took a picture at Biggie Mural and soon moved to The Oculus by the New York Metro.

 The World Trade Center. 정말 높은 빌딩이었다. 서울에도 높은 빌딩이 있지만 뭔가 다른 레벨이다. It was a really tall building. There is a tall building in Seoul, but it is at a different level. 야경을 보는 티켓이 $47 정도로 기억하는데 너무 비싸서 포기했다. 대신에 저렴하면서 재밌게 놀기로 결정했다. 그런데 이번 여행을 통해서 얻은 점은 저렴해서 아무리 잘 놀아도 돈을 잘 쓰면서 노는 것 보다는 못하다는 것이다. What I gained from this trip, however, there's no such means that you can enjoy better without money.

 오큘러스 지하철역. 세상에서 가장 아름다운 지하철역. 내가 태어난 이후로 이렇게 생긴 지하철역은 본 적이 없다. 정말로 어떠한 말도 할 수 없었다. 정말 아름다웠다.

 I haven't seen a subway station like this since I was born. I really couldn't say anything. It was so beautiful.

 9/11 Memo9/11 memorial 관광지에서는 사람들이 침묵하고 묵도하는 시간을 갖는다. 절대 떠들어서는 안 되는 관광 장소 중 하나이다. 실제로 기도하는 사람들도 있으니까 방해해서는 안 된다. 나는 이 사건에 대해서 관심을 항상 갖는 사람은 아니지만 이 곳에 직접 방문해보니 자동적으로 숙연해졌다. 

 In the 9/11 Memorial tourist spot, people have a time of silence and silence. It's one of the tourist attractions that you should never talk about. There are people who actually pray, so you shouldn't do something disturb them. I'm not always interested in this event, but when I visited, I was automatically matured.

멕시칸 그릴 치폴레 혹은 칩폴레?! I ordered a chicken bowl because it contains rice, chicken and lettuce :) I know I am so Asian.

Biggie Mural 보고, The Oculus 방문하고 다시 호스텔에 가서 씻고 짐을 정리하고 저녁에 다시 나왔다. 나는 미국에서 지내는 시간을 낭비하고 싶지 않았다. 내가 할 수 있는 것은 다 하고 싶었다.

I didn't want to waste my time in America. I wanted to do everything I could. After arranging my baggage at the hotel, I headed to the Time Square!

뉴욕 공기는 나쁠 줄 알았는데 생각 보다 괜찮은 것 같다. 아마 바닷가 주변이라서 그런가? I thought the air in New York would be bad,f but I think it's better than I thought. Maybe it's because it's around the sea?

 타임스퀘어는 사람이 정말 많다. 대부분 외국인일 것이라고 예상되는데 사기꾼들도 정말 많다. 절대 절대 그들에게 대답을 하거나 칭찬을 해주면 안 된다. 어떤 사람이 사기꾼이냐면 당신에게 말을 거는 사람이 사기꾼이다. 처음에는 "니하오" 아니면 "중국인?" 혹은 "한국인" 이런식으로 질문하면서 다가온다. 여기서 "Yes"라고 대답하는 순간 당신은 50% 당했다. 절대 대답 조차 하지 마라.

 Times Square is really crowded. Most of them are expected to be foreigners, but there are a lot of crooks. Never answer or compliment them. The person who talks to you is the swindler.
