Day 25: Eating and Walking around at Chinatown, Vancouver(밴쿠버 차이나타운)

 샌프란시스코 차이나타운이 미국에서 가장 큰 차이나타운이라면, 밴쿠버 차이나타운은 캐나다에서 가장 큰 차이나타운이다. Vancouver(밴쿠버)의 nickname(닉네임)은 Hongcouver(홍쿠버)이다. 이유는 Hong Kong(홍콩) 사람들이 밴쿠버에 많기 때문.

 밴쿠버 차이나타운(Vancouver Chinatown)으로 가는 길에 있는 아파트이다. 1층에는 슈퍼마켓, 옷 가게, 식당이 있다.

 It's an apartment on the way to Vancouver Chinatown. There are supermarkets, clothing stores, and restaurants on the first floor.

 지금 여행을 하면서 차이나타운을 가봤는데 입구는 다 똑같이 생긴 것 같다?

 I've been to Chinatown while I'm on a trip, and I think all the entrances look the same.

 차이나타운 안에 있는 international village(인터내셔널 빌리지)이다. 중국음식점뿐만 아니라 아시아 음식점은 거의 다 있다. 영화관도 있는 쇼핑몰이라고 생각하면 된다. 생활 문제를 대부분 여기에서 해결할 수 있다.

 It is an international village inside Chinatown. There are almost all Asian restaurants as well as Chinese restaurants. You can think of it as a shopping mall with a movie theater.

 Chinatown(차이나타운) 안에 있는 건물이기 때문에 중국 상인들이 많다. 사진에서 벤치에 앉아 있는 사람들을 보면 모두 중국인들이다.

 Because it is a building inside Chinatown, there are many Chinese merchants. When you see the people sitting on the bench in the picture, they are all Chinese.

 International village (인터내셔널 빌리지) 2층에는 푸드 코트가 있다. 한 번 쯤 먹어보기 좋은 것 같다. 엄청 맛있고 그런건 기대하지 말자. 중국인 유학생들이 많이 와서 먹는 것 같다.

 International Village (International Village) There is a food court on the second floor. I think it's good to try it once. It's so delicious and don't expect that. It seems that many Chinese students are coming to eat it.

 낮 시간에는 테이블에 앉아 있는 아저씨, 아줌마들이 와서 쉬는 것 같다.

 During the day time, it seems like an old man and aunts sitting at a table are coming to rest.

 인터내셔널 빌리지 2층 (International Village 2nd Floor) 중국집에서 $9 짜리 밥을 먹었다. Custom(커스텀)해서 먹을 수 있는 음식이다. 미국에서는 Chipotle(치폴레), Panda Express(판다 익스프레스) 같이 커스텀 음식이 흔하지만 캐나다에서는 Custom(커스텀) 음식을 먹기 쉽지 않아서 그리웠다.

 I had a nine-dollar meal at a Chinese restaurant on the second floor of International Village. It's a custom food. Custom foods are common in the U.S. such as Chipotle and Panda Express, but I missed them because they are not easy to eat in Canada.

 걸어 나오니 Chinese Cultural Centre(중국 문화 센터)가 보인다. 무엇을 하는 곳인지는 모르겠다. 중국인들이 주변에 많았다(당연하지.. Chinatown 차이나타운인데..).

  Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. Sun Yat-Sen이라는 사람이 누군지 알면 좋을텐데 누군지 모르겠다. 그래도 그냥 궁금해서 들어가본다.

 차이나타운은 완전한 중국이라고 생각하면 된다. 중국은행, 중국음식점, 중국핸드폰가게 등등 중국에 관련된 것 중 없는 것이 없다.

 You can think of Chinatown as a complete China. Bank of China, Chinese restaurant, Chinese phone shop, etc. There is everything related to China.

 Dr. Sun Yat-Sen 이라는 사람 동상도 보인다. Cultural Fair가 있었는데 날씨 때문에 취소됐다고 하네요. 아쉽다. Vancouver(밴쿠버)에서 원래 눈이 많이 안 온다는데 내가 가는 곳 마다 비가 오고 눈이 왔다.

 I can see a statue of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. There was a Cultural Fair, but it was canceled because of the weather. That's too bad. It wasn't snowing much in Vancouver, but everywhere I went it rained and it snowed.

 캐나다 인구가 30 millions (3 천만 명)이 안되지만 노숙자가 정말 많다. 밴쿠버 노숙자에 대한 부분에 대해서도 다시 포스트 할 예정이다. 

 Canada's population is less than 30 million, but there are a lot of homeless people. I will also post again on the part about the homeless in Vancouver.

 차이나타운에서 돌아오는 길에 눈에 덮인 길이 아름다워서 한 번 찍어봤다.

 On my way back from Chinatown, I took a picture of the road covered with snow because it was beautiful.

 여기 사진부터는 밴쿠버 차이나타운(Vancouver Chinatown)과는 무관하지만 밴쿠버 국제 공항에 있는 중국 장식들이다.

 From the pictures here, they are Chinese decorations at Vancouver International Airport, although they have nothing to do with Vancouver Chinatown.

Day 14: San Francisco City Hall and China Town(차이나타운)

 샌프란시스코 2월 날씨가 원래 이런지는 모르겠는데 일주일 동안 계속 비가 오고 반복했다. 시청에 도착한 시간이 오후 3시인데 해가 안 보인다.

 I don't know if the February weather in San Francisco is always like this, but it rained and repeated for a week. I arrived at City Hall at 3 p.m., but I can't see the sun.

 이렇게 비가 오는데 운동을 하는 사람도 있다. 샌프란시스코 시청에 도착했는데 사실 이곳에 왜 왔는지 모르겠다. 

 I arrived at San Francisco City Hall and I didn't really know why I was there.

 역사가 있는 건축물은 한국과 많이 다른 느낌이다. 한국 시청이나 국가 건물은 대부분 신설이어서 깔끔한 빌딩 느낌인데 미국이나 유럽 시청 건물 같은 경우는 역사를 보여주는 느낌이다. 딱히 볼 것은 없다. 그냥 시청이 이렇게 생겼다 느낌. 밤에 오면 조명이 멋지다고 하는데 비가 계속 내려서 저녁에 또 다시 오고 싶진 않았다.

 곧 바로 차이나타운으로 향했다. 걷는 중 너무 배고파서 치폴레에서 치킨볼을 먹었다. 그리고 비가 오지만 다시 차이나타운으로 향했다. (샌프란시스코 차이나타운 근처에 치폴레가 많이 없다.)

 사실 이 곳이 입구인지 출구인지는 잘 모르겠다. 어찌 됐든 차이나타운의 시작을 알리는 장소이다.

 입구 바로 앞은 인기가 많은 가게가 많이 없는 것 같다. 안 쪽으로 더 들어가야 사람들이 많이 있다.

 나는 사실 어디 여행을 가더라도 차이나타운은 거의 무조건 안 간다. 차라리 중국에 가고 말지 차이나타운은 안 간다. 그런데 샌프란시스코 차이나타운을 방문한 이유는 미국에서 가장 큰 차이나타운이기도 하고 마친 시기가 Chinese New Year's Day랑 겹쳐서 어떤 행사를 할까 궁금해서 방문하게 되었다. 그런데 날씨 때문인지는 몰라도 솔직히 볼 것은 없었다.

 In fact, I rarely go to Chinatown, no matter where I go. But the reason why I visited Chinatown in San Francisco is because it is also the largest Chinatown in the U.S. and I came to visit because I was curious about what kind of event I would like to see because it overlaps with Chinese New Year's Day. But there was nothing to see frankly, whether because of the weather or not.

 모든 여행 일정이 날씨 잘못이다. 차이나타운에 아시아 관광객들은 없고 서양 사람들인데 아시아에 관심이 많은 사람들이 와서 사진도 찍고 진지하게 구경하는 것 같았다.

 The weather is bad for all travel. There were no many Asian tourists in Chinatown and people from the West who are interested in Asia came and took pictures quite seriously.

 이소룡 벽화! 중국 사람이지만 정말 존경하는 영화 배우이다! 이소룡 덕분에 아시아 영화 배우들의 해외 영화의 길과 진출이 보다 더 수월해진 것은 분명하다.

 Lee So Ryong(Bruce Lee) mural! He is Chinese, but he is a movie star who I really respect! Thanks to Lee, it is clear that Asian movie stars could debut in foreign movies.

 저팔계 배 부분에 Notorious B.I.G 라고 문신이 있네요.

 이런 저런 중국 스타일 벽화를 보는 재미가 있었습니다.

 그런데 중국은 절대 실망시키지 않는다. 이 곳에서 브랜드 의류를 구매할 수 있을 것이라고 생각하지 말자. 다 가품이다.

 But China never disappoints. Let's not think we can buy brand clothing here. It's all fake.
